Treatment

Our treatment process

The treatment process at SAMA Autisme Centrum is built up out of different phases. This approach allows for careful decision making, personalised and future oriënted guidance for each and every child.

Observation period (first 12 weeks)

During the first 12 weeks getting to know the child is central. In this period children get used to the environment, group structure, class rules and the daily program. We observe how the child functions within the group, treats other children and reacts to structure and guidance.

In this phase when necessary and fitting, additional studiesand assasments will take place. These studies consist out of for example: IQ-tests and sensoric screening. This information helps us to get a good view of the childs developmental needs, possibilities and support questions.

Within 12 weeks we evaluate with the parents wether the treatment fits with the needs and abilities of the child. Based on these observations a definitive treatment plan is put together.

Intensive treatment

After the observation period the next phase starts. In this phase we work towards goals established in the treatment plan. The guidance is aimed at developing in multiple domains. Paying attention to functioning in a group, preparing for school and independency.

Within this phase we strive to gain a clear future perspective of the child within around 10 months.

Temporary outflow profile (Year 1 end)

Towards the end of the first treatment year we make a temporary outflow profile. We do this in an early stadium of the treatment to take into account the long waiting lists within education and follow up treatment in the region.

By establishing this profile on time:

  • Parents can start early with signing up for a follow up treatment place or school.

  • We lower the chances that when treatment is finished the child gets stuck at home.

  • Parents and other involved parties have a clear view of whats going to happen after and can rest easy without worrying over the future.

The outflow profile is made in discussion with parents, the municipiality and any other possible involved parties.

Working towards outflow

After establishing the outflow profile we aim the treatment to be even more specific towards developing skills necessary to succesfully transition to a follow up place. The guidance connects with the demands and expectations of the transition.

Getting used to the follow up place

When the transition comes closer, we support the child with getting used to the new environment. There's extra attention put into a careful and warm transition.

To finish up the treatment an endevaluation will take place. After everything is settled SAMA stays available for half a year to give advice from a distance, to support parents and involved parties with the transition.

Time and evaluation

The intensive day treatment at SAMA Autisme Centrum takes on average a year and a half to three years, but there is the possibility for a child to stay until they're twelve if thats needed for the development of the child. During the treatment there are regular evaluations like:

  • Interim evaluations to monitor progress.

  • An expansive evaluation with the parents every six months.

  • Regular evaluations with the government and other involved parties.

This way we can ensure a careful, transparent and future oriënted treament process.
